Terrapoteca Discovery Workshop July 21st from 4 to 6pm at Folies de Provence shop

12 Place de la République Arles

In addition to its exceptional flora and fauna, the Camargue is also home to a priceless treasure that has recently become the new star of the cosmetics world: Camargue red rice. Camargue red rice has countless virtues, making it the best ally for hydrated, smooth and silky skin.

Nourishing and moisturising, Camargue rice has the ability to develop powerful antioxidants, giving rise to new beauty products such as Camargue rice water mist and Camargue rice bran oil, which aim to prevent and combat skin ageing and imperfections.

First of all, a bit of history

paysage

After South-East Asia and Africa, it was not until the 12th century that this extremely ancient culture took root around the Mediterranean basin. In France, it wasn't until the 13th century and even the 16th century that it was officially mentioned.

Did you know? On 23 August 1593, Henry IV, through his minister Sully, ordered the cultivation of rice, sugar cane and madder in the Camargue. This southernmost region of France had favourable temperature and irrigation conditions, but the lack of rainfall and the proximity of the sea meant that the soil was too saline.

It wasn't until 1870 and the damming up of the Camargue that irrigation was brought under control and production really took off.

A victim of global competition, it was only at the end of the 20th century that the Camargue rice revival began, with growing market demand, refined production techniques and a return to consumer values of taste and product quality. The introduction of labels and controlled appellations, and above all the tremendous enthusiasm for organic farming, have made rice growing in the Camargue a dynamic, high-quality production area with unrivalled expertise.

Benefits of rice for the skin

fiole

Rice water and Camargue rice bran oil provide total hydration with antioxidant, anti-UV, natural filtering and non-polluting active ingredients. The quality of the ingredients is one of the major requirements, the skin is moisturised and smoothed thanks to this silky veil in no time and the products are 100% natural.

Camargue rice water mist

brume

At Terrapoteca, the red rice comes from organic farming in the Camargue and the rice water is macerated in the rice and obtained using a patented manufacturing process.

Rich in antioxidants such as flavonoids, vitamin B9, magnesium, phosphorus and polyphenols, this rice water mist, combined with plant hyaluronic acid to help hydrate the skin, is recognised as an anti-ageing ingredient that helps combat skin ageing and external aggressors such as the sun, wind, pollution, etc...

Camargue rice bran oil

huile

Terrapoteca's totally pure virgin rice bran oil is obtained by extracting the outer part of the rice grain using supercritical CO2, thus preserving all the essential nutrients.

The quality of the oil is the best possible, firstly because the product is not heated and secondly because no chemical treatment or refining is applied during the manufacturing process.

Raw rice bran oil is the first rice bran oil to come from Camargue farming. Rich in antioxidants and soothing agents, it provides an immediate "healthy glow" effect.

Virgin rice bran oil is ideal for use in anti-ageing face and body care products, and is perfect for mature skin. It is also rich in vitamin E, phytosterols and ferulic acid, which help to reduce the appearance of puffiness and dark circles under the eyes.

Rice water mist and rice bran oil ritual

rituel

Just like ancestral Japanese rituals, the use of rice water and Camargue rice bran oil brings softness, radiance and luminosity to the skin, leaving a light, subtle fragrance and a sensation of intense freshness. A real power duo!

récolte

The Camargue is a blessed land for growing rice. There's an abundance of water, ideal soil, wind and sun, not to mention Camargue salt, another culinary star of this magnificent region. Rice-growing plays a major role in the ecological balance of the Camargue.
