Folies de Provence in Italy!

Florence, capital of Tuscany, is not only the cradle of art and architecture, but also a town so dear to Folies de Provence

Florence, an enchanting city

The Neapolitan expression "See Naples and die" could be adapted to Florence "See Florence and die"!

A veritable esthetic shock and tumult of the senses, Florence, whose historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is prone to the "traveller's syndrome" or "Stendhal's syndrome", which occurs when certain visitors are confronted with a profusion of masterpieces in the same place at the same time, resulting in an accelerated heart rate, dizziness, suffocation and even hallucinations!  Although not officially recognised, this syndrome was first described by Stendhal during a visit to Florence in 1817.

"I had reached that emotional point where the celestial sensations of the fine arts and passionate feelings meet. On leaving Santa Croce, my heart was pounding, life was drained from me, and I walked with the fear of falling", from his book Rome, Naples and Florence - 1826.

Christmas Market in Piazza Santa Croce

A romantic, cultural and artistic destination, it is also a city so dear to Folies de Provence, which has been staging its Christmas market in Piazza Santa Croce every year for over twenty years, from mid-November to mid-December, One of the city's most beautiful squares, it is home to the magnificent Santa Croce Cathedral, which is not only the largest Franciscan church in the world, but also a veritable Pantheon, containing almost 300 tombs, including those of Galileo, Machiavelli, Lorenzo Ghiberti and Michelangelo.

The Piazza Santa Croce Christmas market looks like a small Christmas village, with wooden chalets typical of the South Tyrol region of Italy and lots of decorations and lights. The lights, atmosphere and Christmas decorations make this market a dream come true.

Open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., the market includes around fifty vendors selling handicrafts from all over the world, as well as culinary specialities. The Folies de Provence chalet located in the first alley on the left as you face the Santa Croce cathedral, offers a range of cosmetics, home fragrances, soaps and gift boxes, all made in Provence, to give you plenty of gift ideas for the festive season.
